Essex Barn

Having carried out a considerable amount of work for Karen and Kevin on a previous property it was great to be asked to help when they bought their converted barn. Whilst we had a good understanding of the clients likes and dislikes this property couldn’t have been more different from their first house we’d worked on.

Because we knew the clients well and had a good rapport with them both we were confident that we would fulfil their expectations. The barn was really traditional, having been restored to its original design; however the desired look was one of a complete contrast, they wanted something extremely contemporary, very modern, and with three children, incredibly cool.

Due to the timber structure of the building it was not possible to use wallpaper to generate the required look, instead we used heavy textured fabrics. We then incorporated striking details such as beaded trims, acrylic and metal curtain poles, wonderfully dramatic tie backs, extravagant cushions and luxurious throws. We then selected amazing statement light fittings from Porta Romana.

Why this project worked so well for our clients was the fact we’d created separate individual living areas within one large open space. The barn now has a glamorous yet homely and relaxed feel to it.

All 3 children, whose rooms were all designed for them with their own input, tell me they also love their new home.
